We have some news to share - starting today you can host smaller projects free forever in Codesphere. Over  the last few years we have been working incredibly hard  to simplify the complexities of cloud hosting and are really proud of what we've built.

Therefore we are opening our platform to a wider public and invite all of you to try it and of course let us know what you think.

Our claim:

Host up to 3 smaller projects free forever in workspaces that turn off when unused.

Apart from all the excitement and turbulence of the launch we feel it's prudent to explain in more detail what that means and also explain some limitations.

  1. Your initial Codesphere team comes with 3 free plans to allocate to your workspaces, other teams can only use paid plans
  2. Turn of when unused = after ~3o minutes of inactivity in the IDE the server turns off
  3. We are starting with a limit on how many free plan workspaces can be running in parallel - this ensures stability - if you experience the limit, check back later or switch to a paid plan with dedicated resources

Feedback:

We appreciate your feedback and encourage you to add & vote on feature requests here: https://feedback.codesphere.com/

Also we are working on setting up a forum / discord for more direct communication, we will announce that via the monthly newsletter.

Roadmap outlook:

Working on a platform like Codesphere we are of course never quite done, but you have to "launch" at some point. One milestone we have already kicked off and is planned for mid August will make our free tier even better:

Currently free workspaces turn on/off based on IDE usage. Once we release Dev Deployment mode, free workspaces, just like dev mode workspaces, will also be able to wake up upon visiting the corresponding dev domain!

Other exciting things we are working on include integrated uptime monitoring, custom docker images, sudo for package management, more git operations and more ;)
